If you don’t think you can start a company/business on the cheap and have it be successful, read this: http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2007/06/by_the_numbers_.htm.
Better yet I will summarize it for you. Guy Kawasaki recently launched a site called truemors. It is a pretty simple site that allows people to post latest news and rumors (yes there are other services out there already, that’s not the point). The point is from start to finish he built the site for a gran total of about 12k. He breaks out the costs for you in his blog. Point is, legal fess cost him almost one third of the 12k. You probably won’t have that cost. The site is built on Wordpress by electricpulp, another third of the 12k (another cost you won’t accrue, or at least don’t need to). So 8k was spent between legal fees and site build, two things you can seriously save on) For the final third of the costs you can look at his blog and decide if it was worth it - probably not in my mind but hey, he has money to burn.
Point is, if he builds a site for 12k, you can certainly build yours for under 1k and get your business up and running. Remember, his 12k included 8k for development cost and legal costs, two things you don’t need. Ultimately, 12k is still a lot of money to most people especially if you are just getting your feet wet. Of course you don’t need 12k to get started.
