California Statment of Information Scam

I’ve recently received mail asking me to complete my Statement of Information.  The letter was from Sacramento from the Business Filing Division (also one from the Annual Filing Division).  For those of you who get them, it is a scam, plain and simple (you can find some more information about it here.  In short, it tells you it’s not from the state of California and that it isn’t an official document, but it is easy to miss and gloss over (it made me think twice).  As a note a statement of information typically costs all of $20.00 to file which is what tipped me off and made me look at this document in more detail.  Short of it is, if you are an LLC and get this, it is a scam.

I’ve also gotten similar things personally as well.  Been seeing more and more of them and I am sure they aren’t limited to California.  Check and double-check the validity of any of the mail that comes through fom the “government” and make sure that it is legit.
